Bacillus toyonensis biovar Thuringiensis: A novel entomopathogen with insecticidal activity against lepidopteran and coleopteran pests

چکیده
The Bacillus cereus group includes eight species: anthracis, B. cereus, cytotoxicus, mycoides, pseudomycoides, thuringiensis, weihenstephanensis and toyonensis, which are highly related at the phylogenetic level. In this work, we performed isolation characterization of a novel sp. strain exhibiting parasporal crystals with insecticidal activity that was initially classified as thuringiensis strain. Its genome encoded three genes showing homology to known pesticidal proteins from Lysinibacillus sphaericus proteins: Cry7Ga1 (a crystal protein), Mpp2Aa3 (ETX/Mtx2 family) homolog mosquitocidal-like protein (NPP1). However, since its sequence shared > 98% ANI several toyonensis genomes, has subsequently been renamed biovar Thuringiensis designated Bto-UNVM_94. Bioassays demonstrated exhibited toxicity against Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) Anthonomus grandis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), low Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) Alphitobius diaperinus Tenebrionidae) whereas no shown free-living nematode Panagrellus redivivus (Rhabditida: Panagrolaimidae).

Insecticidal activity of Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1Bh1 against Ostrinia nubilalis (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) and other lepidopteran pests.
Bacillus thuringiensis is an important source of insect resistance traits in commercial crops. In an effort to prolong B. thuringiensis trait durability, insect resistance management programs often include combinations of insecticidal proteins that are not cross resistant or have demonstrable differences in their site of action as a means to mitigate the development of resistant insect populati...
متن کاملVip3A, a novel Bacillus thuringiensis vegetative insecticidal protein with a wide spectrum of activities against lepidopteran insects.
A novel vegetative insecticidal gene, vip3A(a), whose gene product shows activity against lepidopteran insect larvae including black cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon), fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua), tobacco budworm (Heliothis virescens), and corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea) has been isolated from Bacillus thuringiensis strain AB88. VIP3-insecticidal gene homolog...
متن کاملA Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal crystal protein with a high activity against members of the family Noctuidae.
The full characterization of a novel insecticidal crystal protein, named Cry9Ca1 according to the revised nomenclature for Cry proteins, from Bacillus thuringiensis serovar tolworthi is reported. The crystal protein has 1,157 amino acids and a molecular mass of 129.8 kDa. It has the typical features of the Lepidoptera-active crystal proteins such as five conserved sequence blocks. Also, it is t...
متن کاملSpecificity-determining regions of a lepidopteran-specific insecticidal protein produced by Bacillus thuringiensis.
The lepidopteran-specific, insecticidal crystal proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis vary in toxicity to different species of lepidopteran larvae. We report studies of CryIA(a) and CryIA(c), two related proteins that have different degrees of toxicity to Heliothis virescens yet very similar degrees of toxicity to Manduca sexta. The amino acid differences between these proteins are located primari...
متن کاملCombining Hexanoic Acid Plant Priming with Bacillus thuringiensis Insecticidal Activity against Colorado Potato Beetle
Interaction between insect herbivores and host plants can be modulated by endogenous and exogenous compounds present in the source of food and might be successfully exploited in Colorado potato beetle (CPB) pest management. Feeding tests with CPB larvae reared on three solanaceous plants (potato, eggplant and tomato) resulted in variable larval growth rates and differential susceptibility to Ba...
